Griffins VS Asheville W17-5
Greenville traveled to Asheville for our traditional bruise up in the mountains
on a small and wet field. Asheville’s spirits were high coming off a big win the
week before and were confident with their home field advantage. Greenville
traveled with good numbers and a predominately rookie team, hoping to develop
future Griffins and improve our level of rugby through game experience. The game
started with a series of up front exchanges as both teams fought to dominate the
pack. The backline was hindered by the severe lack of space but managed to keep
things tight and keep Asheville guessing with some good tactical kicking by
Mulli. It was always going to be a scrappy game, but with good leadership in the
pack by Joel and later Tony Cogiola, Greenville managed to start controlling
play. The second half saw Greenville camped in Asheville’s half, not looking for
the kicks but for the tries. Highlight of the game was Titus bursting through
the line off an inside pass by Mulli for the power try. Overall it was a good
game, we won the initial battle in the first half and were able to control the
rest of the game. The score line should have been more but with so many new
players the finishing was lacking. Good day for rugby and it was great to get
some many new players on the field.
