Griffins rejoin the Palmetto Rugby Union!
It was announced Tuesday, January 4, 2006 that Greenville RFC has joined the Palmetto Rugby Union . This is exciting news for local rugby because GRFC and the PRU will be better aligned to grow youth rugby in the state of South Carolina. Recognizing youth rugby as the future of rugby for the United States has prompted many clubs nationwide to focus their efforts on developing the game for tomorrow's rugby generation.

John Roberts, Secretary and Treasurer of the Palmetto Rugby Union, was quoted as saying "With the addition of Greenville RFC to the Palmetto Union we are prepared to make a strong push to develop high school rugby. Greenville is an addition that will give us full geographic coverage of the state." Roberts went on to add, "With the addition of Jim Gaine, 2004 Collegiate All-American Coach, as the Youth Development Officer for the Palmetto Union, we feel that we're positioned to impact the growth of U.S. rugby at all levels of play".

GRFC are also prepared to become more actively involved rugby development. Dan Roberts of Greenville RFC remarked "Greenville is excited about the opportunity to partner with the PRU to strengthen rugby in the state and contribute to the growth of the Palmetto Union. Basically, be prepared to see some good things coming from South with regards to the recognition of rugby."
