May 3, 2007 -- Well what a bruising weekend it was down
in Columbus, Ga. Greenville went down with the goal of returning
to the nationals for the first time in 9 years. One win was

have secured us a place with a game to go, a loss would make
it go down to the wire on the Sunday game.

Greenville 27 - Cape Fear 0
February 20, 2007 -- Under less than ideal weather conditions
the Greenville Griffins remained undefeated in the 2007 matrix
season with another brilliant defensive effort topping their
D2 rivals Cape Fear 27 - 0 this past Saturday at "John Roberts
Park" on the Furman University campus. With the forecast calling
for grey skies and gusting winds throughout the afternoon it
was evident that both sides would be forced to play a constrictive
style of rugby, and that points would be hard to come by.

Greenville Wins Again...On the Road, the Long Road
February 12, 2007 -- This past weekend the Greenville Griffins
literally got on the long road towards the D2 playoffs for their
first road match of the 2007 matrix season. With 24 players
the Griffins made the 13 hour round trip journey north to face
a deployment drained Camp LJ side just outside of Jacksonville
North Carolina. The journey was indeed long but the results
on the pitch, and the friendships forged with the LJ side off
of the pitch certainly made the trip worth while.

Open League Season With a Win Over Columbia Olde Grey 20-18
January 28, 2006 -- It was a great day for rugby and
Greenville certainly showed up to play, it's a pity they didn't
stay around to play. Following last weekend’s drubbing
at the hands of Charleston, last Fall’s pep in the Griffins
step was rightfully deflated and a chance to redeem themselves
was on the cards against an inform Old Grey side.

Griffins rejoin
the Palmetto Rugby Union!
It was announced Tuesday, January 4, 2006 that
Greenville RFC has joined the Palmetto
Rugby Union . This is exciting news for local rugby because
GRFC and the PRU will be better aligned to grow youth rugby
in the state of South Carolina. Recognizing youth rugby as the
future of rugby for the United States has prompted many clubs
nationwide to focus their efforts on developing the game for
tomorrow's rugby generation.
John Roberts, Secretary and Treasurer of the Palmetto Rugby
Union, was quoted as saying "With the addition of Greenville
RFC to the Palmetto Union we are prepared to make a strong push
to develop high school rugby. Greenville is an addition that
will give us full geographic coverage of the state." Roberts
went on to add, "With the addition of Jim Gaine, 2004 Collegiate
All-American Coach, as the Youth Development Officer for the
Palmetto Union, we feel that we're positioned to impact the
growth of U.S. rugby at all levels of play".
GRFC are also prepared to become more actively involved rugby
development. Dan Roberts of Greenville RFC remarked "Greenville
is excited about the opportunity to partner with the PRU to
strengthen rugby in the state and contribute to the growth of
the Palmetto Union. Basically, be prepared to see some good
things coming from South with regards to the recognition of
rugby."
2005 Fall Season Ending
November 8, 2005 -- Well, we started the 2005 fall season with
a big shake-up in the Greenville Griffins Coaching set-up. It
was recognized that the team needed a new focus and a new spark
and energy to help re-ignite the passion and success that Greenville
had achieved in the past but had found so elusive over the past
couple of years. Mike Cobb was installed as Head Coach along
with Parker Carlisle and Tommy Liddle as Assistant Coaches.
Quite a formidable coaching triumvirate. There was quite a buzz
going into the first practice with this new set-up.
