Gentlemen,

Well a greatly improved performance Saturday and in terrible conditions as well. This is a far better barometer of where we are and where we want to be. We started strong which has been a weak point for us consistently. Our tackling from the start was excellent. Our Tuesday night tackling practice really paid dividends. We were solid all day except letting them through close to the scrum for the last score. We didn't manage to score a try but we came very close on a number of occasions. It was the last pass that let us down. We spent at least a half of the first half camped out near their line but just couldn't cross it. Their 1st try caught us a napping a bit. We squeezed up close to the breakdown and we failed to see that they were lined out right across the field so when they spun it we just didn't have the numbers there to stop them and they managed to dot down in the corner. We need to work on our awareness a bit in these instances. We never stopped attacking the whole game and for the conditions our ball handling was excellent. We made very few turnovers due to the conditions. One area that needs particular attention is our lineouts. I don't believe we won any cleanly Saturday. That is an area that we have to be able to win our throw and an area that will get particular attention in the coming weeks. Scrums were not bad. Just need to work on getting the hook back to the Number 8's feet quicker and cleaner. Backline worked well. Our defence was excellent however a couple of times that last pass went to deck. We just need to work on the finishing.
Overall guys a much more complete effort from everyone. We hurried to the breakdown and we didn't spectate. I look forward to get a chance now to work on some key areas this week. We do not have a game this coming weekend but we are looking at having 2 good practices this week. See everyone Tuesday at 7:00pm.
Good job everyone and let's improve even more from here.
